This series of four books is specially designed to provide students with a sound understanding of English vocabulary and ample practice in its use.
workbooks 1 and 2 focus on the use of such common words as good, fair, fine and nice which either are rather vague in meaning or tend to be overused. By working through the 25 exercises in each book, students should be able to improve their vocabulary, as well as make their own writing more interesting and effective.
Workbooks 3 and 4 aim at increasing students' knowledge of English words and expressions and so encouraging them to extend the range of their own vocabulary.
Each book contains 25 passages demonstrating such features as euphemisms, words appropriate only in informal contexts, difficult words replaceable by simpler words for clarity, cliches, and so on.
There is also a section 'More about Language' which presents statements about selected aspects of English such as confusables, idioms, proverbs, acronyms and spelling problems. Both sets of information are followed by exercises developed to test and reinforce students' grasp of what they have learnt.All the workbooks include keys to the exercises.This series will be of use both for teachers and learners.
